The Santa Clara Dam, which was once the largest dam in Portugal, is located on the Mira River, close to the border with the Algarve region. It was built to provide irrigation for the entire municipality of Odemira.
Descending along the banks of the Mira River, you will reach the village of Santa Clara-a-Velha, where you can admire the magnificent water mirror and visit the chapel that belonged to the Order of Santiago.
Crossing a mountainous area, you will once again reach the banks of the Mira River where, winding through the Alentejo terrain, you will reach the town of Odemira, the municipal seat. Here, the riverside area is worth a visit. Leaving the Mira River valley, you will pass through the village of Boavista dos Pinheiros. From here, following rural roads, you will reach your destination: Herdade do Touril.
